OUR HISTORY 75 years of science, innovation
and human passion
Since 1950, the French Society of Cosmetology (SFC) has supported the scientific and industrial growth of cosmetology in France. This timeline traces the key stages in our history, our growing international influence and our role in bringing together researchers, manufacturers and professionals around issues relating to skin, beauty and innovation.
1951
Creation of the French Society of Cosmetic Chemists by Egmont Desperrois, pioneer of modern cosmetics, and Charles Zviak, managing director of L’Oréal.
1959
The IFSCC was founded by eight cosmetics companies: SFC (France), DGK (Germany), SBCC (Belgium), DKKS (Denmark), SEQC (Spain), SCC (United States), SCS (United Kingdom and Ireland) and SCC (Switzerland).
1979
Creation of the IJCS, chaired by Guy Aubin, in partnership with the SCS, its British sister society.
1980
First symposium in Orléans on natural substances
1986
Creation of KOSMET (database dedicated to cosmetics) under the IFSCC presidency of Guy Aubin
1998
Release of the first IFSCC magazine at the IFSCC congress organised by the SFC in Cannes
2008
Creation of the Cosmet’Agora trade fair, dedicated to cosmetic formulation, on the initiative of Philippe Blaise and Marc Bonnevay.
2010
‘News and Future’ becomes ‘Jean-Paul Marty Days’ (in memory of Jean-Paul Marty, Doctor of Pharmacy and Associate Professor at the Universities)
2013
Claudie Willemin becomes the first female president of the SFC
2013
Creation of the Formulation Award under the leadership of Philippe Blaise and Claudie Willemin in partnership with Expression Cosmétique
2020
The Jean-Paul Marty Days are changing their name to become the International Symposium of the SFC
2025
The SFC hosts the 35th IFSCC World Congress in Cannes, confirming its central role in international cosmetic science
